Hylonomus lyelli fossil

The creature above was found at Joggins, Nova Scotia. It is a nearly complete skeleton of a type of amphibian known as an anthracosaur. This amphibian was a carnivore that ate mostly fish. They were well-adapted for swimming and could grow quite large - up to a metre in length.
