The Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic is located on the waterfront of beautiful Old Town Lunenburg, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Commemorating the fishing heritage of the Atlantic coast of Canada, the Museum is housed in brightly painted red buildings, with floating vessels at wharfside. We have dozens of exhibit galleries, activities, daily talks and hands-on demonstrations.

Get your sea-legs on the banks schooner Theresa E. Connor and talk with "old salts" who fished the North Atlantic. Help with the launching of a schooner model and feel the thrill of watching a vessel slide down the ways. Visit the boatbuilding shop - or, spend a bit of time hooking a mat or quilting, in the Life in Fishing Communities exhibit. The Museum theatre shows films throughout the day.

Great Story Ideas

Bluenose: You can't travel in Nova Scotia without hearing about the original schooner Bluenose! Explore the world's largest collection of authentic Bluenose artifacts and hear the true story!

Rum Running: Ahhh matey, think you've heard it all, have you? What about a bit of bottle fishing? You'll never think of rum or the Women's Christian Temperance Union in quite the same light after a visit here! Our exhibit is located on the third floor.

Life-Cycle of a Lobster: Admit it. You haven't really thought about the life-cycle of anything since high school. On the other hand, aren't you just a bit curious about how lobsters actually create little lobsters? What does a family do when they have lots of teenaged lobsters, all fiercely independent, like teenagers everywhere? For the answers to these and other crustacean crises, visit our aquarium and have it all explained to you!
